  • Lead and Make Good Business Decisions

    Communication and good decision making are essential skills for senior employees and those in leadership roles. This subject focuses on the skills required to make and communicate sound business decisions. Active listening, critical and creative thinking, problem solving and using workplace data lead directly into how to best communicate results to your stakeholders. In addition this subject looks at your responsibilities to develop and role model these skills.

  • Effective Sustainability and Resource Policies

    Businesses are now, more than ever, focused on achieving improvements in sustainability practices. Learn to develop and implement a workplace sustainability policy and to modify the policy to suit changed circumstances. Sustainability is an essential business tool for achieving cost savings as well as meeting social responsibilities.

  • Advanced Operational and Financial Planning

    The skills and knowledge required to run a business operation and the steps required to develop and implement a business plan are covered in this subject. Integrated into this are the techniques behind operational planning to ensure the availability of key business resource requirements.

    Being able to organise personal work priorities is an essential job skill. Learn how to set and meet work priorities through time management and planning your work schedule. Skills to identify potential problems and prevent stress in the workplace are also covered. Also learn the importance of professional development activities.

  • Building Strong Customer Relationships (E)

    This subject has been structured to progressively develop the students skill and knowledge in the building, managing and maintaining of customer relationships to support business outcomes. It explains the difference between customer service and customer relationship building; with an emphasis on the skills required for longer term relationship building. This includes considering a range of client relationship strategies and also how to use networking effectively.

Course Duration

18 months is allowed as the standard part time enrolment term for the Diploma of Business course.

Students who are able to commit more time to their course can finish earlier; while Traineeship terms may be longer.

Entry Requirements

    • Access to a Desktop Computer or Laptop
    • Internet access with Internet Explorer 8+, Chrome or Firefox
    • Microsoft Office 2010 Word and Subject specific Office products for chosen electives (ie Word, Excel)
  • Past Work Experience
    For this qualification you should have completed the Certificate IV or have relevant work experience.
  • Reading and Writing Skills
    The course is an online correspondence course so you need to have strong English reading and writing skills, or higher. As a guide - you should have completed a formal course after having completed Year 12 schooling, or have proven workplace written communication skills.
  • Spoken English Skills
    Some components of this course have practical components where students will be required to demonstrate verbal communication skills as part of their assessments. Average English skills are necessary to complete these components successfully.
  • Numeracy Skills
    Numeracy skills are required at an average level eg completion of Year 10 maths and the ability to use a calculator.
  • Computer and Internet
    • Ability to study and conduct assessments in a safe environment

PLEASE READ BEFORE ENROLLING! Skilled Capital places are limited for each qualification. Before enrolling, please contact the College to check if the qualification you want to undertake is available. Eligibility requires you to be an Australian Citizen or New Zealand passport holder resident for more than 6 months, permanent resident visa holder who is a resident or working in ACT, or an eligible visa holder, over 15 and have left school; or i) is undertaking a course of study leading to completion of a year 12 in an alternative program, or ii) has an Exemption Certificate and the selected Skilled Capital qualification is an approved ASBA pathway  This course is funded by the ACT Government.
