This subject provides an overview of warehouse operations and documentation and includes identifying products, understanding the sections within a warehouse and specific storage areas. It develops skills in examining quality, reporting on products, as well as using systems to identify and locate products and following security procedures
This subject covers the skills and knowledge required to work in a healthy and safe manner. You will learn to recognise hazards, the importance of safety signs and how to raise safety issues within a warehouse or logistics workplace. This is a great entry level subject to help you act and respond to emergency incidents in a safe manner; and use manual handling techniques safely.
This subject addresses the foundation skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a logistics, store or warehouse environment. This includes a focus on using quality methods designed to ensure customer satisfaction for internal and external stakeholders across chain management. Awareness of key job responsibilities in warehousing and logistics and being able to organise personal work priorities are essential job skills. A number of practical workplace activities are undertaken and used as assessment evidence to ensure the new employee gets started in the right way.
Any person who has some role in the transport and storage of goods (called the supply chain) is responsible for safety. This requires having skills to identify and manage fatigue; determine and calculate load mass; and ensure compliance with vehicle and storage limits. This is a key subject to ensure you are aware of legal obligations and practical ways to meet them.
The prompt despatch of orders is a key requirement in any warehouse. This subject looks at how to consolidate manifest documents and organise despatch operations. The accurate completion of key despatch documentation is also addressed.
Receiving of goods to replenish stock requires awareness of: product storage requirements; what to look for when checking and inspecting goods on arrival; and completing receival documentation. This subject also looks at unloading, unpacking and storing protocols.
Customer service is a key function in all job roles. This subject provides information and knowledge on identifying internal customers needs and delivering good customer service. As well as covering practical service skills there is specific emphasis on customers with special needs, working in a culturally diverse workplace and effective complaint handling skills. In this subject you will also learn about typical procedures that businesses want applied to any internal or external complaints received, and how to best adapt your communication to the specific needs of the internal or external customer.
This subject looks at the range of documents that have roles in a warehouse and logistics environment and the quality systems that apply. Documents include workplace documents, employment documents and delivery and despatch documents. Assessment is undertaken across the whole period of the course with examination of the different documents applicable to earlier subjects.
