    Safety is paramount in every industry, especially in Warehousing and Logistics. This Subject provides the skills and knowledge required to work in a healthy and safe manner. You will learn to recognise hazards, the importance of safety signs and how to raise safety issues within a warehouse or logistics environment. This is a great entry level subject to help you act and respond to emergency incidents in a safe manner; and undertake safety housekeeping activities.

  • Work Effectively in Warehousing

    Warehousing is a dynamic and ever-growing industry. This Subject addresses the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a logistics, store or warehouse environment. It includes identifying and working to organisational standards, managing workload, and working as part of a team. A number of practical workplace activities are undertaken and used as assessment evidence to ensure every new employee gets started in the right way.

  • Chain of Responsibility Obligations

    Any person who has some role in the transport and storage of goods (called the Supply Chain) is responsible for safety. This requires having the skills to identify and manage fatigue; determine and calculate load mass; and ensure compliance with vehicle and storage limits. This is a key Subject to ensure you are aware of your legal obligations and practical ways to meet them.

  • Starting in Warehousing and Logistics (E)

    Efficient and effective storage is always a major factor in the Supply Chain industry. This foundation level Subject provides an overview of warehouse operations and includes identifying products, understanding the sections within a warehouse and specific storage areas. It develops skills in examining quality, reporting on products, as well as using inventory and labelling systems to identify and locate products.

  • Picking and Despatch (E)

    Picking and processing orders and safely loading and unloading goods is a primary focus of the Warehousing industry. This important Subject will give you an understanding of the way a warehouse functions to ensures efficient despatch and timely delivering of goods.

  • Receive and Replenish Goods (E)

    The Supply Chain industry cannot function without goods to move. Receiving of goods to replenish stock requires awareness of: product storage requirements, what to look for when checking and inspecting goods on arrival; and completing shipping documentation. This subject also looks at unloading, unpacking and storing protocols to complete your knowledge of this key aspect of Warehousing.

  • Baggage Handling (E)

    This subject looks at the business processes and procedures behind baggage handling such as moving baggage both manually and mechanically using a conveyor belt system. Work placement in a suitable environment is needed. In addition the skills to ensure security of goods and to identify and action security threats are addressed by this subject.

  • Mail and Parcel Operations (E)

    Where your job role involves sorting mail and parcels this subject will suit. It covers manual sorting and distribution processes as well as initial identification and separation of mail prior to movement to the despatch dock.

  • Computer and Administrative Tasks in Logistics (E)

    This subject provides an overview of routine administration tasks in warehouse and logistics operations. Responsibilities such as incoming and outgoing mail, filing and message taking are covered. As many of these tasks are computerised work the subject covers keyboarding skills and basic use of computers.

The critical Subject looks at the specific needs and demands of a busy logistics, stores or warehouse environment.

Course Duration

12 months is allowed as the standard part time enrolment term for the Certificate II in Warehousing Operations course.

Students who are able to commit more time to their course can finish earlier; while Traineeship terms may be longer.

Entry Requirements

for the Certificate II in Warehousing Operations

  • Relevant Work Role Required
    A warehouse or logistics environment is necessary to be able to undertake practical activities required in this qualification, eg picking products; putaway; inventory stocktake, manual handling.

    It is not possible to undertake this course without access to a worksite that allows you to undertake these activities.

    As a minimum 70 hours of work must be undertaken.

    Ability to conduct practical on-the-job assessments in a safe environment under appropriate workplace supervision.
  • Reading and Writing Skills
    The Certificate II in Warehousing Operations is an on-line correspondence course, so you need to have basic English reading and writing skills, or higher. As a guide - you should have completed Year 10 schooling, or have proven workplace written communication skills.
  • Spoken English Skills
    To ensure successful completion of this course you must have sufficient English speaking skills to be able to communicate with your Student Adviser over the phone.
  • Numeracy Skills
    Numeracy skills are required at an average level eg completion of Year 10 maths and the ability to use a calculator.
  • Computer, Internet and Technology You Need

    This qualification is offered online and requires learners to have:

    • Access to a Desktop Computer or Laptop
    • A stable internet connection and a plan that allows reasonable data usage
    • An up-to-date Internet browser eg Internet Explorer 8+, Chrome or Firefox
